Chief Seattle (siʔał) Gravesite

Chief Seattle (siʔał) Gravesite
Chief Seattle (siʔał) Gravesite

Description

Chief Seattle, known in Lushootseed as siʔał, was a leader of the Suquamish and Duwamish peoples and represented his people during the Treaty of Point Elliott era. He died in 1866 and is buried in Suquamish Cemetery.

The Suquamish Tribe improved the memorial with story poles, seating, and interpretive information. This remains a cemetery and a place of ongoing community remembrance, not simply a tourist landmark.
