Old Man House Park occupies part of the site of dxʷsəq̓ʷəb, the celebrated Suquamish winter village and enormous longhouse that was home to generations of Suquamish people, including Chief Seattle. The U.S. government ordered the longhouse burned in 1870 as part of efforts to break communal life and force assimilation.
The land was returned to the Suquamish Tribe in 2004. It is a place of remembrance, resilience, and living cultural connection.
