Fort Ward Park occupies waterfront land once used to protect the Bremerton naval shipyard. The fort was commissioned in 1903, later became a Navy radio station and communications school, and was decommissioned in 1958.
Today visitors can see two gun batteries and other surviving structures while using shoreline paths, picnic areas, a boat launch, and beach access. The broader historic district also includes privately owned property, so visitors should remain within public areas.
